You grew up in the 70's/80's in Canada if...

You know who Casey and Finnegan are and you know this man....

(Sorry not a very good pic!)

In the picture he is standing at what he called "the tickle trunk". It was full of fun costumes that he would dress up in (hence the show's name "Mr.Dress-Up!) to do little plays and stuff with Casey and Finnegan, who were puppets . I watched this show longer than I should admit too...I think just because for some reason it comforted me. Looking at the picture of him now I wonder if maybe I was drawn to him becasue he kind of resembles my own Dad (and Grandpa actually) in some ways! I never realized that until now.

The man who played Mr. Dress-Up was named Ernie Coombs. He passed away in 2001, long after the show went off the air. When I learned of his death even though I was already an adult, I was very saddened by the news. I would have loved to have met him. Watching his show as a kid is a very strong and warm memory for me.
Such a great childhood memory! Do you know this show? What was your fave show as a youngin?

  2. I heard a story about the show on the CBC about Ernie and the puppeteer was asked if asey was a boy or a girl and her answer was ,"Yes". I thought that was amusing.
