Canadian eh?

Every weekday morning (unless I am sick or have the day off of course) I drive my little blue car (AKA-the blue bomber) to the train station closest to my house, park it there and take the train downtown to work. And each morning there is a very friendly man that stands at the base of the train platform handing out the daily free newspaper for commuters to read on the train.
Each morning, he hands me my paper, I thank him, we exchange a tiny bit of chit chat or sometimes just a smile and a have a great day greeting.
This particular morning he joked about something as I walked up to him, I responded and we laughed. As he was handing me my paper, he noticed I was wearing mitts. Yes, I was. My big warm red “Canada” mittens. You see a lot of people wearing these in our parts. They introduced them to Canadians for the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver and each year since you can buy them. You see them everywhere, on all ages and genders.
And he smiles and says to me “figures”. I must have looked a little confused and he continued to tell me that he has noticed over the time he has been at the train stations handing out papers that the people wearing these “Canada” mitts were friendlier. He mentioned it to friend who hands out the paper at a different train station. His friend laughed and said he was crazy but a few days his friend called him up and told “you are totally right, the people wearing the Canada mitts are way friendlier!”.
I have thought of this over the past few weeks and every time I slip on my mitts I think of his theory.
Could there be something to it? If there is, what makes it so? Is it a certain type of person that might wear these mitts? Or was he drawn to people wearing them just out of personal preference and his own Canadian Pride? Is there something there in the old stereotype I hear about that Canadians are friendly and polite (which by the way, I disagree with, we have lots of jackasses too, just like the rest of the world)?
In any case I thought it was a neat story and theory. And now when I wear my nice warm mitts I think of him. I think I might even smile at strangers more, be a little more courteous, and even feel a little happier.
All while wearing what I now think of as, my friendly mitts!

Proudly Canadian!

Things I learned last week

~I have overextended myself yet again. I need to keep reminding myself, I can't do it all. And it's okay. Why do I keep forgetting that?

~Although it has already been almost 3 months since BigJ spread his wings and moved out, I still hope to see his truck parked in its usual spot in front of our house each time I pull up. And my heart still aches a little when it's not there.

~A nice warm toque (yup, I am Canadian!) is a welcome comfort in our crazy weather. The fact that it was knitted by my own Mom makes it priceless. Thanks Mom, I absolutely love it!

~I have to think that with out a doubt, “what’s for dinner?” is the question I get asked at home most often. Too often. It kinda drives me a little nutty actually!
~I really need to help my husband get of the coke…diet coke that is.He’s tried to cut it out and can’t…its crazy and concerning.

~Justin Beiber may or may not have touched a fans breast in a photo. Now that is earth shattering news.

~I really, really have no interest in watching the bachelor or bachelorette. Not at all. I think I might actually zone out and or doze off when people talk about the shows or their characters. ZZZZZZZ, huh, oh what was that? Oh you were talking about the Bachelor/Bachelorette, right.ZZZZZZ.

~Regardless of how it feels sometimes, we are not given more than we can handle.

Just a snippet

LittleA and I play the license plate game while driving. You know where you make words out of the letters on peoples plates. The other day while I am driving  he says "wouldn't it suck if you got the letters V.A.G?". I respond, "yeah that would really suck".
Wait a minute. What? Did he just say that?
What does he know about V.A.G?
The moment passes and we carry on.
V.A.G. Yeah that would suck. And that my Son is at the age that he knows that kind of stuff. That really sucks.

Friday Find

So, yeah. it's Sunday and I am posting my Friday Find. I suck.
But here it is anyway.

This week I found a cleaning product that surprised me. As I was walking down the cleaning isle at my local Wal-Mart I spotted these:

Not exactly this image, mine don't say "miracle" but the rest of the packaging is exactly the same.

And for a fraction of the price of the other cleaning erasers (you know who I am talking about) I stopped to think about this. Should I bother wasting my money on a knock off that might not work as well? But if they do, it's a score...

So on a whim I threw a box in my cart. I am glad I did. They worked just as well as the more expensive brand, if not better! I had this black scuff mark on my linoleum ( I briefly complained about this here) that I just couldn't get off, no matter what I tried. And yes, I did try those other expensive cleaning erasers and they helped a little but these, they got it off!! Not without a little elbow grease but I used that same elbow grease with all the other products with little result.

I am a little surprised and a whole lot of happy. That scuff mark had been there since August and it tormented everyday. It really bothered me and it is finally gone!

Truly a "great value".

Over and out.

*I was not compensated in any way for mentioning or using this product. However getting that scuff mark off was reward in it's self!*

And now my first Polyvore outfit!

LittleA's first Polyvore outfit

LittleA saw me on the laptop, playing around on Polyvore. I have seen it on so many blogs and  wanted to see what it is all about. He wanted to try it out so here we go, our first try at it. This outfit totally chosen by LittleA. I am still learning about this Polyvore thing. It does seem cool though. I know, I know I am totally behind the times. Whatever...I get there eventually!

Friday Find

This find makes me Happy, Happy, Happy! I am a big fan of the Robertson family of the Duck Commander/Duck Dynasty fame. I think I have officially seen all the episodes of Duck Dynasty, and a few of the Duck Commander episodes as well.

I can't even count the amount of times each episode that I laugh out loud. If you are not familiar with the their story, I will sum it up really quick. Rednecks who build a million dollar company making duck calls (if you don't know what a duck call is then watch the show to find out!). Now, they are rednecks with lots of money. They still have not lost or forgotten their redneck roots and I really like a lot of their life philosophies and beliefs and how they stay true to them. I find it really good entertainment as well though. I really like watching this family, they are good people and very, very funny! It may not be everyones cup of tea but it sure is mine!

So anyway, I found out this week that they have released a book and I can't wait to read it.

Have you watched the show? What do you think of the Robertson clan?

Interview with littleA

LittleA loves the spotlight and has been asking me if I talk about him on my blog. It gave me the idea to interview him and post it here.
I asked him these questions without letting him know before hand what I would be asking and he answered each one within a few seconds.
The mind of my 12 year old...

Question 1- How old do you think a person should be before they get married?

LittleA- 24

Question 2- If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?

LittleA- Josh. No, no, no, Cameron. I really like the name Cameron.

Question 3- What is your favorite thing about your big Bother?

LittleA- Even though he is way older, he still likes to play video games with me and spend time with me.

Question 4- If you could only take 1 thing from our house with you on a month long trip, what would it be?

LittleA- Am I going to another country?

Me-Doesn't matter

LittleA- My passport or a picture of my family.

Question 5- What is your favorite smell in the whole world?

LittleA- I like the smell right before it rains.

Question 6-  Tell me one piece of advice you would give someone younger than you?

LittleA- Never give up your dreams. Even if people tell you that you can't do it. I am not saying be disobedient  Just don't give up.

LittleA- Is that it?

Me- Is there anything else you want to say to the people that read my blog?

LittleA- Yeah. I love my Mom. Or I guess she's called jaksgirl123. Oh and follow jaksgirl123 on Twitter.

And those were his exact words folks. Without any prompting from me and very little hesitation. He is a very smart young man, And so supportive of my blogging and all. I am blessed!

I have been a bad blogger!

I am still here, I just have been a terrible blogger. A busy week plus a few migraines kept me away but I am back!
Thanks for staying with me!

Things I learned last week

~I really needed that 16 hours straight of sleep…my body really needed it!

~I always say I don’t want or need anything for Christmas but right after Christmas I think of a dozen things I could use and should have asked for!

~When my Eczema (which is on the bottom of my feet, so very awesome of a place to get an itchy-so intensely itchy, dry, cracking and bleeding skin issue!) is at its worst, I am so very thankful for the instant relief slathering it with Lavender essential oil gives me. The relief is unbelievable.

~I managed to loose a pound of weight over the holidays…how is that even possible? I am still trying to figure that one out.

~The best things in life really are free, like naps. Naps are wonderful!

~We take playing Uno very seriously in our house. It got pretty loud and competitive. Lots of laughs though, good clean fun. Great memories.

~Sometimes the presents you love most are the ones you get that were not on your wishlist and things you never would have thought to ask for.

~Regardless of how it feels sometimes, we are not given more than we can handle.
