Mop & Glo...No no no!

So I recently had this great idea to wax my floors with Mop & Glo floor wax. I remember years ago my Mom telling me to never use it as it wasn't worth the trouble. But in my infinite wisdom I thought that surely whatever the issue was years ago, they must have fixed the formula or whatever as people are still using it.
My floors always look dull to me (they are linoleum and oh so plain and boring!). So I decided, to heck with it. I am going to wax them. The only floor wax I found on the shelf at my Wal-Mart was Mop & Glo. I grabbed it and went on my merry way.
I washed my floors as soon as I got home, scrubbed them really good (on my hands and knees y'all-it took forever!) to make sure they were clean. And I did it. I poured the wax on the floors and again on my hands and knees and spread it evenly section by section (again y'all on my hands and knees, it took a while!). I did all the uncarpeted floors in my home. This means 3 bathrooms, my fair sized kitchen and eating area. My front entry and laundry room.
And oh it looked so nice!  I actually liked the look of my floors, so shiny, so pretty!
Fast forward 2 weeks and after a few times of washing my nice shiny floors with a mop and my regular cleaner I am noticing it feels sticky even though I know they are totally clean. And the shine is gone, which I expected that it would fade of course! I wash them with a few different cleaners and they are still sticky. And they are getting dirtier quicker, the dirt is getting caught in the sticky residue. It's a nightmare. Really, it's awful. I just finished googling how to get this residue off my floor and guess what? I find pages of reviews and warnings about Mop & Glo and this exact issue!
Tonight, I am heading back to Wal-Mart to get litres of Windex as I have read mixed with water it will finally be the product to take this disgusting Mop & Glo residue off my floors.
And again it's the same old story...I should have listened to my Mom!
Stay away from Mop & Glo...google it...listen to me...listen to my Mom...it's not worth the trouble!
Have you used Mop & Glo and had the same experience? Have you used it and had a good experience? Any tips on another way to get my lino floors looking better without Mop & Glo or replacing them?

  7. Perhaps it depends on the type of flooring you have. I can't say I ever found the floor sticky after applying the product.

    4. It's not a wax. It's a cleaner. Don't wash it off with another cleaner. Just read the directions and you all should be fine. I've been happily using it since the late 1980's, in 2 different homes with different flooring. Nothing but 'clean & shiny'.

    8. It is primarily a cleaner. Using another cleaner on it will remove it. I am not sure from your comment but you may have put it on to thick which may cause the stickiness when you use another cleaner on it. Check the instructions. I've never had problems with it.

  10. I love my steam mop for my no wax vinyl floors. I don't use it on the wood laminates or wood floors as it can leave streaks and remove the shine.

  11. The thing with Mop & Glo and similar products is you have to keep on maintaining the floor with the same product to preserve the integrity of the coating/film.
Using any other cleaning solution with an alkaline base will make the problem even worse. Windex is ammonia based which is highly alkaline, that is why it is a good product to use for complete removal of Mop & Glo coat.

    2. Yes this has been my experience also
Just like nail polish will remove nail polish, mop n glo will remove mop n glo, wet n wipe with a separate cloth, or whatever you choose

  12. I used it on a light colored somewhat textured vinyl floor in the bathroom years ago. It looks as though it sealed dirt into the "grooves" So far I've tried Windex and vinegar with no result. The worst of it is the buildup of dirt along the baseboards.I've taken them off and haven't had much luck even scraping with a knife. Time for a new floor I guess.

  14. We, ok, mostly my wife, used Mop and Glo for 30 years and the self-stick kitchen tiles still look good. Annually she striped off any build up with water and vinegar, then recoated with Mop and Glo. Of course, if you switch to a different chemical you can expect trouble.

  15. I've used Mop n Glo for more than 30 years. True, if you use any other cleaner on top of it, you will partially strip it, causing it to be very sticky. I vacuum and use hot water to clean, then refresh with Mop n Glo. It stands up nicely to traffic, omly needing to be reapplied every few weeks is all. My roomba vacs daily (5 cats and service dog), so there's little need for washing.

  17. In our house a former cleaner used Mop N Glo for many years. We have a rug over half the floor. When you lift the rug you can see the original color of the flooring. The other part that got the Mop N Glo is dark dark dark brown (the original floor is a dark gold). It's horrible. Right now I use wet Swiffer solution just to clean it. I dread the thought of trying to get the Mop N Glo off with my carpal tunnel. It's going to hurt my hand. It's the same in the breezeway. Ugh ugh ugh

    1. I actually am having this same issue. I wish I would've NEVER used it. I just went to the dollar tree and bought a bottle of the Awesome cleaner. I sprayed it on and let it soak for about 15 mins doing small areas at a time and then taking a rag with warm water and it's coming right off (no elbow grease required) Once this process is done I will never use it again. I'm having to do my living room and a hallway and a bathroom like this coz the floors look filthy like I never clean them and I mop them several times a week with Mop N Glow. Good Luck!

  18. 2 gallons of hot water, 2 cups of white vinegar, 2 cups of ammonia, a nice squirt of blue dawn dish soap, and a 1/4 cup of washing powder (without any bleach in the powder, bleach & ammonia makes mustard gas!) mixed in a bucket. Wet mop a small 3 foot by 3 foot section, let it sit for a minute. Scrub with a stiff brush, and wipe up with clean water and something you will throw away like an old t shirt. It comes up like chicken fat floating in cold soup. I use mop n glo, I steam clean it only, and give another coat.I strip the floor biannually because it yellows overtime and my floor is white.

    2. Do not mix bleach and vinegar mixed! Chlorine is a strong base and vinegar is a strong acid. This creates chlorine gas which is also very dangerous!

  19. I mistakenly used Mop and Glo on a shiny hardwood floor, it left the floor white. I tried using water and vinegar but it made the floor whiter, I also used Pledge but it didnt get better. I called their hotline number to ask for a remedy, the lady said I need to get a commercial floor scrapper. Oh no! I don't want to spend so much money for that! What should I do?

  21. I'm 60 yrs old now, but I remember my mother using Mop & Glow when I was a child/teenager.....first she would clean the floors with either Spic and Span or TSP, both granulars added to hot water. When the kitchen floor was dry, she'd use the Mop & Glow and us kids were restricted from the kitchen for at least two hours until it all dried. Mom would keep the back door open to speed drying time. Perhaps the sticky problem people seem to be having is because of inadequate drying time. Our floors always looked great. Cleaning in between time was just warm water.....and again we were restricted from the kitchen until it was dry....

  22. I had laminate flooring installed in the kitchen, family room and laundry room a year ago. I've been using the wet Swiffer pads but then I need to dry the floor or when it dries, it looks dirty!! So I've been trying to dry it with the DRY Swiffer pads. I've even attached old towels to my Swiffer mop. The laminate flooring still end up looking streaky and dirty. I've been told that Mop & Glow is good to use on laminate. I just Googled it and Walmart supposedly carries it. Will I be making a mistake by using Mop & GLo?

  25. I have sealed wood flooring in my kitchen and dining room, I have tried everything to keep it from looking like a streaked mess, then my mom brought over a bottle of mop and glow and I was so ecstatic my floor shined like new again, and no streaked mess. I have never had any problems with it.

  26. I have used mop n glo for years. I personally love the stuff. Its makes any old dull looking floor shine. I have never had any kind of problems with it.

  27. Hiya... honestly, for old linoleum floors, I'd use a car wash with wax included, and use that on my floors after a normal cleaning. The wax is just good enough to add shine, but won't make the slippery hazard that full paste wax and buffing would cause... plus, it would break down over a week or two, but could easily be maintained 2x a month.

My mother used to be on her hands and knees every other week with ammonia and pot after pot of boiling water, stripping off the Mop n Glo, then drying the floors out with every fan in the house, then reapplying the mop n glow because she loved the shine...

Me, I'm just too lazy. Ain't nobody got time for all that!! Heck, I even put a coat of car wax (paste wax) on my freshly disinfected bathroom sinks once a year, so they're super easy to clean with a quick swipe, and I wax all the wood furniture, including cabinet doors, so I can dust in seconds with a dry microfiber, or vacuum, have a wonderful, lasting glow, and protect my wood from spills, or those pesky rings, plus, I never have to bother with that slimy pledge stuff. Like I said, I'm lazy. :D

  29. As a professional house cleaner I can tell immediately if the home owner has used mop and glo by the tell tell sign of my feet sticking to the floor. Mopping with hot water and Windex and a lot if elbow grease will remove it. Once it's gone your faced with the dull floor surface that prompted using mop and glo to begin with. I have found a product that works like a charm to bring your dull, scratched wood and laminate floors back to life. Quick Shine made by Holloway House is amazing! It dries quickly and looks great. Most Home Depots carry it in store or order online. Happy mopping :)

  32. Mop & Glo does a really effective job on my oak wood floors. It gives a nice subtle sheen. I think the trick is not to apply it too often.

  33. First off it is not floor wax 😂😂. It is the floor cleaner that leaves a nice shine behind but no where does it claim to be wax it is not floor wax! I use it when I can find it and like it very very much I even use it on my hardwood ash flooring

  39. Among the popular Vileda mops are the flat ones. They allow you to get plenty of leverage behind the pushing so the floors can be clean. These work well for entryways and other smaller locations. If you have a large kitchen floor though you are better off getting one that will cover a larger area at once. Best Gala spin mop for home

  40. Been using mop n glow for years. If it's sticky, you're using way too much. I use one of those cheap fake spray mops, with the fabric bottom that you can wash. Only put a little down, then you have to work it, like you're polishing shoes, or furniture. I have never had a sticky situation. I do go over the floors first with a Hoover floormate, I love that thing, cleans the floor awesome, I use hot water and some purple cleaner, then when it's dry, I polish it with mop n glow. Floor stays shiny for weeks with minimal cleaning, than I do it again. I guess maybe, as well as not using too much, you have to clean it before you reapply it. Never had a problem, actually, we generally get compliments, and folks ask us how did we get the floor so shiny.
