I am just gonna say it. I might have to "shelf" the blog for a while. Clearly, I just don't get to posting as often as I should and while I do have lot's to report, thoughts to share and plenty of words I could be typing...I just don't get to it.
It's not that I do love blogging or you, I guess I am just lovin other things more these days.
So, here is what I am thinking. I will check back in the New Year okay? I am giving myself the rest of the year to decide if blogging still fits or not. Consider Wishes won't wash dishes just on official pause for now, mmmmkay?

But while I am here I thought I would leave you with a unique product I stumbled across recently.

I came across this at Walmart. Maybe it's not so strange or new but it was for me. I pondered picking up a pack but had second thoughts. I dunno... is it weird? Is it cool? Not sure! It would match my bathroom though.

Here's the details:

Safe for sewer and septic system

I can't remember how much it cost, sorry!
And a huge Happy Holidays to you if I don't talk to you before Christmas!

Hiya!

So a few days late but here is my October to do list. You may notice I took painting the bedside tables off for this month. I took a look at my calendar saw all the things coming up this month and got a little real with myself. There are far more pressing things I should be doing (who I am kidding though, they probably wouldn't get done anyways, ha!). Nobody ever goes into my room except of course KingK and I really (of course except BigJ and LittleA the odd occasion. Like when BigJ "borrows" KingK's shaving cream from our en suite bathroom. Which he never returns and it drives KingK nuts! Or when he comes into our bathroom to weigh himself. Which I never realized he did all the time until the other day. Or when we find LittleA's socks randomly in our room. This is a tip off that he has made himself cozy in our bed watching TV after school and ditches his socks, wherever and whenever! I think it's kind of weird, I never went into my parents room. He says he loves our duvet so I got him one of his own. Apparently its not as "fluffy" as ours. Funny little duck he is.) I doubt KingK cares that the night stands are still not painted. I don't even think he knows that I think they should be painted.

I am seriously sucking at blogging. I am sorry.
Here's another attempt.
A Monday mash up of stuff.

So let's get this started!

I never did report on my August progress or make a to do list for September. I told you I suck at this.
Well better late than not at all right?

So in August I planned to:

Paint bedside tables

Clean out kitchen pantries

Continue to maintain the flowerbeds and keep them weed free

Clean out storage room

Have garage sale

Spend day with dear friend T helping her set up a website and blog

Make 3 new supper recipes

Finish power washing the outside of windows

Take Mom on a picnic

And here is what actually happened:

Clean out kitchen pantries-done!

Have garage sale-I actually had 2 of them!

Spend day with dear friend T helping her set up a website and blog-didn't do her blog or website but we did spend a lovely day together just chatting on my deck and she stayed for dinner so I am counting it!

Make 3 new supper recipes-made probably double that in new recipes-yay me!

Take Mom on a picnic-we didn't end up having a picnic but we did spend a day shopping around for new furniture for her and had lunch. So again, I am counting it!

So sad...those poor bedside tables are still unpainted. They did not get painted in September either.
I didn't even get to a September to do list. I will however post an October one tomorrow, I promise (this is more for myself than you right?)

What else? Ummmm...oh yeah,I love this:

Cool right?

And hmmmm what else?

I am scheduling a haircut (not exactly breaking news huh?) what I want to do to my hair:

What will actually probably happen cause I will chicken out:

A simple trim. I am so boring!

Well, that's enough randomness for today...

see ya tomorrow!

September is here.
I should be posting my September to do list and reporting how I did on my
August list. But I will do that tomorrow. But right now, I need to say, sorry
for being so absent here on my blog. I have no excuses, I just didn’t get around
to posting. I thought about it lots, does that count for anything? I also want
to share a recipe instead. It’s my blog. I can do what I want!

So, school started
this week in these parts. Of course BigJ is done school (for now….we are
still hoping his dream of being an architect is not yet dead and he will enter
University…he’s giving small signs that this is still in his mind!). LittleA
started the 8th grade. He loves school so this is a happy occasion. He
had a funny request though. He asked me if I was taking the day off (When both
my kids were in elementary, I always took the first day off work so I could
walk them to school and pick them up). I laughed and told him no, you are in
grade 8. You don’t need me on the first day anymore. His response was “but I was
hoping you would be home to make me a first day of school wholesome breakfast.
My first thought was, I always try to make sure there are “wholesome” things in
the house for you to have for breakfast…he made it sound like he eats crap all
year long! But then I realized, he just wanted a little something special for
the first day back to school (he’s funny like that). So I made the deal that I
would make him something nice before I went to work. And then, I had to figure
out what the heck I could pull off amongst showering and getting my self ready
for work, making lunches and getting out the door by 7:00am.

That’s when the
light bulb went off. Earlier in the summer on the drive home from picking up
LittleA and my Niece from summer camp they both were raving about this baked
oatmeal they had at camp. Maybe all Mom’s make this, but I had always just made
regular, on the stove oatmeal. So I thought, that might be something I can make
on a busy morning such as this!

I found a recipe
(find it at Mennonite girls can cook, an awesome site for recipes) but tweaked
it just a tad, I indicated my changes on the recipe for reference. I also used
baked apples I had made earlier in the crock pot from some apples my wonderful
friend T had brought over the day before. Have you ever made your own baked
apples/ applesauce in the crock pot? It’s awesome and I don’t even like
applesauce really. And it makes your house smell amazing while they are
cooking. Leave a comment if you want my recipe for that as well.

An awesome detail,
you can do this the night before (its super quick and easy to get ready) and
just pop it in the oven in the morning. I popped it in the oven right before I went
into the shower and by the time I was out of the shower and dressed, it was
ready. Easy peasy! So awesome on a busy morning! And it can be warmed up in the
microwave and served again the next morning. Perfect right? And…it was a hit! This
recipe calls for it to be served with milk. I was informed by LittleA that at
camp they served it with ice cream. What? Ice cream with breakfast? I bet the
kids loved that!

So LittleA got his
“wholesome” warm breakfast, I also had time to sit and eat it with him (bonus)
and we have breakfast for a few days. Winning all around.

I'm lazy sometimes. We all are. Lately I have been extremely lazy. I think I am in a sort of funk. It's a struggle to get motivation to do housework, go to work and even cook. I know I will snap out of it..soon I hope!

I check in from time to time to the I'm a lazy Mom site. I like the validation that I am not the only one. I have mentioned this site before and if you haven't checked it out yet, you should. The recipes and tips are really helpful for us lazy and or busy women.

In celebration of all things lazy I am going to share my favourite "lazy Mom" recipe (and for you Jamie, since I have promised to send it to you a few times already and keep forgetting!).

My family loves this recipe. I have made it several times. It's just so easy, and so yummy!

The topic that leads people from a google search to my blog the most often is "how to get Mop & Glo residue of your floor". It is googled and leads peeps to my blog post a few times each day, almost everyday. I can't stress this enough. Do not use this stuff people. At all. Ever. It's awful stuff.

A newly thirteen year old with a brand new Ipod touch, full access to wifi, which leads to instragram, facetime and some app that allows him to text everybody and their dog (for free) makes for a very happy young man.

The parents of said newly thirteen year old boy are very happy said Ipod was purchased with his own saved up Birthday money, has made him so happy and has allowed the "I need a cell phone" conversations to cease. You are 13, you do not need a cell phone. Oh your friends all have one? Sorry you got stuck with the parents you got. No cell phone until you are in high school. at least. End of story.

I live with 3 vultures...food vultures. Every time I turn around we are out of food. Cupboards picked bare. Fridge shelves emptied in what seems like minutes. I don't know if I will ever be able to keep up with the food requirements of 3 males! For real. I might give up and just throw a few bags of food into the middle of the living room once a week and let them fight it out.

My car did not clean itself last week like I hoped and hoped it would. Come to think of it, my house didn't either. Huh, guess that means I have to do it? There has to be an easier and better way?

NyQuil is intense stuff! I have always tried to stay away from OTC drugs for colds and what not unless absolutely necessary. It became necessary this last week with a doozy of a chest cold. KingK pretty much begged me to try some NyQuil so we both could get some sleep! I caved and took some. That sh*t is crazy! Knocked me right out. And stopped all coughing during the night. NyQuil is magical I tell ya. Crazy!

I suck at words with friends.yes, I keep playing it. I am a fool.

Vinegar and dish soap are by far the best bathroom cleaner I have tried to date. If you want the recipe, let me know. It's cheap and works like a charm!

What did you learn last week?
Here's how I did on my July to do list:

Clean out both pantries in kitchen

Seed and weed both the front and back lawn-Done!

Paint bedside tables

Power wash outside of all the house windows-1/2 done, it started raining and I couldn't finish :(

Power wash the front porch-Done!

Plant flowers in the planters on front porch and back deck-Done!

Have coffee with dear friend-Done!

So a good portion of the list done which is not bad considering I made the list on July 25th and only gave myself a week which actually is cut down to pretty much 3 days cause I am not gonna lie, when you don't get home from work until like 6:00pm and you still have to make dinner, visit with your family, clean up from dinner, make lunches for the next day and try and get to bed at a decent hour, there isn't much time for projects. Not during the week for this gal! Maybe I am lazy but I just don't have it to me to do much other than keeping up with the day to day stuff on weekday evenings.
Oh and I came down with a nasty cold over the weekend as well which slowed me down. It didn't keep me in bed until yesterday. It came to full force yesterday, I was a snotty, feverish hacking mess yesterday and did not get out of bed. Nasty.

Anyway, so sad-the bedside tables remain naked. Unpainted and neglected still. Maybe in August!
And the pantries are still need some attention. I wil carry this over to August as well.

And now for the August list:

I was sitting on the train, taking my regular commute home recently and somehow my mind wandered to things my Mom says. Uniquely my Mom. And they make me smile. And they kinda make me shake my head sometimes too!

One that stands out for sure is something she said a lot. To both my Brother and I. Probably mostly my Brother. I was a pretty darn near a perfect child. Yeah, let's go with that shall we?

Brain up. That's what she said. I can hear it, so clearly "why don't you just brain up?".
What did it mean? I think most other parent's would have said "smarten up". But at our house, we were told to brain up.It was not her calling us stupid by any means. It was telling us to smarten up and or behave. I have no idea where she got that from, maybe her parents. I have never heard anyone else say it. It makes me smile and shake my head thinking about it. It's so strange to type it and say it out loud now but we never considered it an odd statement growing up.

Another thing that stands out is something I heard a lot. Until I was like 8 or 9 at least. I don't remember saying it myself at all but I might have on occasion.
I don't know honestly, now I am thinking about it if it originated from my Mom or if maybe it was a Brotherism. I think though, most likely she said it to him one time or something when he was younger and it just stuck. So it's a bit of both maybe, a Momism and a Brotherism.

Quite often as we got settled into bed, it would start. My Brother would call out to our Mom (Dad worked away a lot and wasn't home a whole lot in these years) "Come and tuck us up Mom".

Not tuck us in, tuck us up. She would almost always be in the basement watching her evening shows and probably couldn't hear him all that well. But he would call out, and call out. I remember laying in my bed thinking, Come on Mom, just come and tuck him up so he will stop yelling and I can get some sleep! It was the same sentence. Nothing more or less to it, ever. Come and tuck us up Mom. Over and over until she heard him and came. He was relentless, my Brother. He still is most times!

I feel like calling my Brother tonight really late and when he answers yelling "come and tuck us up Mom" and hanging up. Hahaha. He would be so confused and maybe even annoyed. I should totally do it! And it's about time he was kept awake by the sentence "come and tuck us up Mom".

I wonder if my kids have things they would say are uniquely me. Momisms that I have or say. I can't think of any. Hmmm....interesting.

Are there things that stick out that your Mom always says or does that is uniquely her? Totally just your Mom? A true Momism?

I have been meaning to do this for months and never got around to it. So you can see how bad I am at getting things done. I can't even get the list done!

So here I am, posting my list in hopes that it motivate me to get things done.

July is almost over but I have come up with a little list of things I hope to get done mainly this weekend, I guess since that's about all the time I have left in July. This whole having a full time job outside the home really gets in the way of getting things done at home during the week!

Clean out both pantries in kitchen

Seed and weed both the front and back lawn

Paint bedside tables

Power wash outside of all the house windows

Power wash the front porch

Plant flowers in the planters on front porch and back deck

Have coffee with dear friend

Now I realize it's a little late in the summer to be planting annuals but I just havent had the chance yet this summer and I figure, better late then never!

Same for seeding. I have to add though, that I already seeded once this year. However, with a neighbor that does no weed control, at all, EVER and has no almost zero grass left (it's all weeds at this point) we need to keep reseeding and trying to push the weeds that are crawling over from their lawn onto ours. We figure the thicker our grass is, the less room for weeds? If you have a better idea, PLEASE share. We have spent hours and a fair amount of money trying to ward off the weed investation that is our neighbors lawn. Weed killer, seeding. pulling weeds, fertalizing...the list goes on. It's so fustrating!

And a quick note on the bedside tables. We have had them for about 7 years. We baught them new and they are unpainted wood. My intention was to paint them like the weekend after we got them...did I mention that was like 7 years ago? So sad.

And lastly coffee with a dear friend. This friend I get chatting and can chat for hours. We want to try and get together every other week for coffee. I really hope we can stick to that, I really enjoy our chats!

And that's the plan...

Over and out.

I have never really given a lot of thought to my eyes until this past year.
Like most people, my eyes have been the same color since I was like 2 years old.
Does anyone really think about the color of their eyes? They are what they are and that's pretty much it.

It started off with a good friend who I have known for many years, interrupting me in mid sentence, to comment on how blue my eyes looked these days. I just chalked it up to it being the color of my shirt, making them look brighter or something.

Then, last October my # 1 fan and I were in NYC on a little vacation together. While we there 2 separate comments from 2 total strangers at 2 totally different times were made about the color of my eyes. And both times the comment was "but you have you have brown hair". One guy even went as far as to ask me where I got them from and surely I must have gotten them from a blonde parent. Nope, I got em from my Dad who also has brown hair.

Well that's odd. But okay. I guess people like me are an oddity in the US? Any Americans reading this can jump in any time and tell me if I am wrong. I really have no idea.

Then a month or two after I got back from NYC, I was in the mall with LittleA. We were going up an escalator. There was a guy at the top. He was waving to us and when we got to the top he stopped us and told me he had never see eyes like the color of mine and asked me if they were real. What? I am thinking at this point. My eyes are the same color they have always been, What is going on? They are blue. Plain old blue.

And then again a few months later I was chatting with my youngest niece and she stops in mid conversation and asks me if I am wearing colored contacts. I tell her I am not (because I don't) and she says "your eyes are blue". Yup, I say they always have been. And she is too "but your hair is brown". Okay, so now this lovely lady has known me her her whole life, which at the time was 12 years. Why is everyone noticing the color of my eyes all of a sudden? And yeah, I have brown hair. I am no freak of nature. Sheesh.

And again, one more time, not too long ago. I am waiting in the line at Tim Horton's (mmmm, Timmy's coffee!). I am meeting a friend as well. I see her come in. I look over and wave at her at the door as she comes in. She says from across the store..."holy crap your eyes are so blue today. I have never seen them this blue!". Her and I have been friends for like over 20 years. So strange.

So I am at a loss. For 2 things. Are my eyes suddenly a lot brighter or something? And is really odd to have blue eyes and brown hair? I have never thought so. It happens all the time, doesn't it?

So that's another musing of my random mind.

On a side note. I am totally terrible at paying attention to the color of peoples eyes. I just never notice. Is it also weird that I don't pay attention to this detail about people.

Do you notice the color of peoples eyes?

jaksgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02773105053343669551noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925798298525818604.post-29173679194081900942013-07-19T08:57:00.000-06:002013-07-19T08:57:08.810-06:00I went MIA again...woops!Oh my. It has been a long time since I posted.
I have lots to say and yet, have nothing.
Funny how that goes.

Summer is in full swing. I am heading out camping with my most favourite girlfriends for a weekend of <strike>debauchery</strike> camping.
This is the 4th year now for the girls only camping trip. I look forward to it all year. We usually have a theme (last year it was Disco) and we celebrated the birthday of one of our ladies. It was an awesome time. We decorated the campsite and even had a disco ball and tie dyed shirts (that I made, thank you very much!).

This year...well it's a surprise. I can't say yet, some in case one of my girlfriends reads this and they don't know anything has been planned. But I will say, I think we are going to have A LOT of fun.
We drink, we eat, we drink. Yes, I know I said that twice. We do a wee bit of drinking.
And laughing. So much laughing. There is just so much to say for what a weekend away with some people that you love dearly can do for your state of mind.
It's a great chance to get away from laundry and dust bunnies and all the glamorous details of the everyday life. We love our families of course but a weekend away, not taking take care of anyone is a great refresher!

So, what else has been going on?

Seems like so much longer ago than it really has been but my beautiful city and parts of our beautiful province had historical flooding last month. The clean up is still on going.
The neighborhood I live in was not flooded but my Dad unfortunately lives in an area of the city that was hit pretty hard.
I spent a good part of a week over my Dad's helping them with clean up and trying to get things back to a livable level. He and his wife were fortunate in the fact that the water did not reach the main floor of their house but their basement was almost completely full of water, almost to the roof. A lot of stuff was not salvageable but we did manage to clean up and save quite a lot. There's still more work ahead as they will need to rebuild the entire basement but I am happy to report that they are now on a much deserved holiday. Resting and fishing. And they sure do deserve some solitude and calm right now!

A glimpse of what was going on my city just a few weeks ago

This flood experience was like none other I have ever seen or dealt with in my life. Nothing like this really happens in our area. We are usually pretty safe from Mother Nature's wrath.
Seeing how the city and the province all pulled together and started rebuilding, right away is something I will never forget. I can't even explain it. There were thousands of volunteers walking the streets of the affected areas, handing out food, cleaning supplies, services. Anything you could possibly need. My heart is lighter just thinking about it. My sense of community is a lot stronger now. Stronger than it has ever been.

Oh there's the whole someone got into our garage and stole KingK's truck (keys were in it, yeah. I know...what?). The garage door was open about a foot. KingK was airing it out. They must have crawled under the door and jackpot... a nice truck with keys in it. Awesome! They jumped in the truck, gunned it and back right out of the garage, right though the door.We don't live in a bad area at all really. We live in the burbs for Pete's sakes. Alas a sad truth, it can happen anywhere. Even small quiet towns. Criminals are everywhere. It was an awesome way to wake up on a Sunday morning, I tell ya. It shook the whole house.
We still don't have a garage door. The garage is all boarded up. Yeah, it looks very classy. We did get the truck back and surprisingly it doesn't have much damage. Dealing with police and insurance constantly still (it's been 2 weeks almost) but hey, we got the truck back (minus EVERYTHING that was in it, right down to a box of kleenex and my lip gloss, the nerve!) and life goes on.

Don't you hate that your arms are just a tad too short to be able to reach back and properly give your butt a good wipe?

Yeah, me too. Good thing there is a product out there that can help us.

Just as flat hair is so last year, regular toilet paper is so 1880s. The modern solution? The Comfort Wipe, an "arm extension and holder" that adds a full 18 inches to your reach. It's simple, really — first attach the toilet paper, then reach, then wipe, then press a button, then pray that the button you pressed actually releases the soiled TP into the toilet.

Okay, okay. So there might actually be medical reasons that one might find it hard to reach their backsides for a good wiperooni (a what? A wiperooni, yeah that's a word. Probably not). I am thinking back problems, shoulder issues, that type of stuff. So, I will let this one go but...

There's only one kind of cleavage that's hot (or two, counting toe if you're into that sort of thing), and the cooter kind is not one of them. Which is where the Cuchini comes in. It's a pad that slips into your undergarments to "smooth the ridges of a woman's mons pubis area." That's technical jargon for fix yourself, girl, you've got a cameltoe. So the next time you feel like slipping into your fave pair of too-tight spandex shorty-shorts and hike them up to your chin, at least have the decency to "seal your lips" with the Cuchini.

Ummm... seal your lips? What the? I have to admit that seeing "the ridges of a woman's mons pubis" (I have no issues using the other term here but it does offend some so I am using the technical term) is totally gross. It really creeps me out. Nasty. But this product...kinda creeps me out just as much. Disturbing stuff I tell ya.

And that's all for today...total randomness once again.

Happy Monday!

I am struck several times a day by thoughts of things I love. I mean besides the obvious, my family, my friends, my life in general. Of course I love these things truly, madly and deeply. I mean those little things that make you smile, that remind you of some one or that smell that just totally comforts you.

Of course, there are many things that I love. The lists goes on and on. I am sure it is the same for most people. We just have so many things to be thankful for, to appreciate and to love. I really want to focus on these positive things in my life. The things that make me happy, even the small things. The positive that most certainly out weighs the negative in our lives yet somehow the negative just seems to claw its way to the top sometimes and smothers the good.

Hey you, negative stuff, quit hogging all the warmth and light. I am gonna let the sun shine in.

Today I would like to share with you something that I love. My own little piece of awesome. I may do this from time to time from now on.

I love waking up, frantically glancing at the clock on my bed side table (thinking, holy crap, did I miss my alarm, what time is it? Am I late?) only to realize no, you have not overslept, your alarm has not gone off yet and you still have more time to sleep. i think I might actually outwardly smile, the moment I realize I can go back to sleep. It's a great feeling to huddle back into the covers, find that sweet spot on your pillow and go back to sleep. Awesome.

Do you ever wake up in a panic thinking you overslept but haven't? Why do we panic right away?
What's a little tidbit of awesome for you? What little thing makes you smile or make your heart happy?

So over the past few weeks Target stores have been opening up, finally. Target is new to Canada and after hearing so much about the American version and how awesome it is, I was anxiously waiting for our version to open up.
I took my first browse at the one that opened up in one of our major malls. My first impression? Meh....nothing special. The prices were a bit higher than what I expected to see, and definitely seemed higher than Wal-Mart . It also didn't seem to be ready to be opened up either. The shelves seemed a little bare. I left without buying a single thing.

Then I took a look at the one closest to my house when it opened up just to see if it was any better and if they were able to fill the shelves up a bit more. Again...meh. Still disappointing. All the same food brands that you can get anywhere. And not to mention all available, and cheaper at Wal-Mart. The home decor section, nothing all that spectacular either. I picked up a few nice big fluffy bath towels for a decent price though. They seem like better quality then any I have seen at Wal-Mart. None of the departments were really any good. The cosmetics had a few brands I have never seen or heard of but other than that it was pretty mediocre as well. It actually felt a lot like being in a Zellers only a little cleaner. I went through the check out with a pretty empty cart. Very disappointing indeed.

I did give it one more go today though. But I went for a particular reason. Last night I was watching the news and they were doing a piece on sunscreen and the best ones for your money. They tested several brands, in different price ranges. Their findings were a little surprising. They found that almost all the brands tested actually provided lower levels of protection than what the labels claimed. Also, that the more expensive brands were no better than the cheaper ones. And their final verdict... the two brands that topped the list as providing the best UVB and UVA protection are...Targets own brand "Up and Up" and Hawaiian Tropic sheer touch. As I noticed the other day that our sunscreens have all expired, I needed to replace them. So I headed off again to Target to check out the prices of their Up & Up since it was rated so well.
I did another walk through and found a few small items but still nothing exciting. But I did snag the Up & Up brand sunscreen. And can you believe that it was actually a good deal? I actually finally found a good deal at Target this time. I got a 2 pack of the continuous spray (this is the one that they tested for the news story) for $9.99. That's a good deal for 2 bottles. A single can was $6.49. I grabbed the twin pak as I needed 2 (one for the trailer and one for the house) but it did save me a few bucks as well. I checked the expiry date (I only found out a few years ago that sunscreen expires, duh-how did I not know this?) and it's good until 2015 so it wont expire before we use it up.
So at least this trip to Target was not a total waste. I won't be rushing out to Target again any time soon. I ended up at Wal-Mart after my trip to Target anyways to get the rest of the stuff on my list. And of course I got everything I needed and for better prices.
Sorry Target, I think you missed the mark here. You gotta do better than that to win me over. No loyal Canadian customer here, except when I need sunscreen!
Most of us are these days right? One of my main focuses has been cutting out as much wheat as possible. I discovered 2 things while trying to cut down on my wheat consumption.
Number 1, I feel better. Like, way better. After just a few days of cutting down on it (I don't cut it out completely, come on...that would crazy hard for a lover of cakes and cookies like myself!) I noticed that the "tummy troubles" I had struggled with for years had simply gone away. Too much info coming at ya...it was common for me to have bouts of diarrhea a few times a week. And always feeling bloated and uncomfortable. I thought for a long time it was an intolerance to milk. Then I shifted my thinking to stress as it seemed to hit when I felt a little stressed and left it at that. But after reading some articles on what wheat does to your body (what's homemade playdoh made of? Flour and water. Picture that just sitting in your belly...yeah. That's what it does, just sits there!) I decided to try it cutting down on it. And the random bouts of running to the washroom like a mad woman totally stopped. And I no longer had that bloated, uncomfortable feeling anymore. Awesome right? Am I intolerant to wheat? I have no idea. I don't want to sound like one of those people that jumps on the band wagon of what's trendy ( seems a lot of people have suddenly having wheat allergies and intolerance's among other allergies and intolerance's we rarely heard of 10 or even 5 years ago) but I can't ignore how much better I feel when I watch how much of it I eat.
And the second discovery, in one week I lost 5 pounds. That's huge for me. I don't loose weight easily. But also, the huge discovery for me was that after just a few "bad" days of eating more wheat products ( pasta, pizza and cake...mmmmm!) than I had been, I gained those 5 pounds back. In just a few days!!!! So although it was not my intent to do this to loose weight, I did. More importantly, I realized how much weight I put on when I wasn't careful about my wheat consumption. Think of the homemade playdoh scenario again...I picture a big lump of dough just sitting in my belly when I go to reach for a muffin or a bun that is sitting next to my fruit bowl...be smart, be smart. Do you really need that pile of flour or would an apple fill the hunger void just a s well?

It's not always easy. And I by no means am ruled by it. I just pass up bread and pasta sometimes. And when I can, I use other products like gluten free pasta, rice four for baking...that kind of stuff. It's a little more expensive, yes. That's why I don't always do it. But I try to make better choices. That's something I never even considered doing even a year or two ago.

On that note, I am going to share a fave recipe of mine. It's a quinoa salad. I am a huge fan of quinoa (pronounced keen-wa). I discovered it while looking for gluten free alternatives to rice and pasta. Not familiar with it? Click here to read about how awesome it is for you. And it's not expensive at all, I get a 200g box of it at Walmart for around $3.00). I love quinoa salads...so yummy!
I suffer from eczema. It's at this very moment the worst it has ever been. It mysteriously appeared as a tiny little circle of bumps the size of a quarter on the bottom of my foot about 4 years ago. It was only on one foot and then within in days it showed up on the palm of one of my hands. After a trip to the doctor he took a quick look at it and prescribed a cream for it. I used it a few times and the patch on my hand went away totally and never returned. My foot however is a different story. It came and went over the next few years, never really getting bigger than a the diameter of a couple of quarters. That was until this winter that is. It got inflamed and angry this winter. And it spread with a vengeance. It covers more than half of the sole of my foot and is now coming up the sides to the top of my foot. And it spread to the other foot as well. And that foot is on it's way to matching the other.
I refuse to take a picture of the nastiness that is going on with my feet but I did google it for images and I feel like a little brat complaining about mine now that I have seen pics of how others are suffering with eczema. Those poor people, whoever they are. Seriously. I should just shut up right now. But yet, this post goes on...
The itch, oh the itch of it. This is one heck of an itch. I am not talking a little itch. It's like I want to stab my foot with something sharp (I have had pictures in my mind of doing just that with scissors and even one of my Mom's knitting needles, no joke) and then scratch the crap out of my foot from the inside. It's like this really deep in the tissue type itch. I get temporary relief from lavender essential oil (seriously that stuff is amazing!) but it's getting out of hand now.

But when I scratch it...oh my...it's euphoric. For real. You have no idea. Now I am not talking the big "O" type stuff is happening (this is where you are to get your mind out of the gutter!) but it definitely is more than scratching an itch and just having it go away. There is an actual feeling of "AHHHHH" when I allow my self to scratch my feet. It does feel amazing. This post is actually sounding very weird at this point. but, I will carry on. It's how I roll.
Please note, I am not sitting here scratching my feet and hollering out like a orgasmic lunatic. Just for the record.

It led me to look up why that is. I read a few articles that suggested that scratching may release endorphins in some people. I never knew that. I also read that there are people with skin conditions similar to mine that actually have found that heat helps with the itching. Some scorch their skin with scalding hot water for relieve, or use their hair dryers on the spots or even burn themselves on hot radiators for relief. This scares me! Not to mention that heat actually makes the eczema way worse so for that temporary relieve they actually do more damage! What a terrible situation to be in. And mine is an area that is not visible very often. I can avoid having it visible ever, If I want to. But some people have it all over their bodies and even on their faces.

I see things a little differently right now. My feet are insanely itchy and nasty looking right now but I have seen how lucky I am. And that was not the intent of my post. I actually starting this post totally with the intent on complaining and telling you about how awesome scratching my feet can be these days.

I am an ass.
You can say it. I just did.

And to further my assness (not a word I am pretty sure) I did find a pic of someone with a similar case of eczema to mine. These are not my feet but mine look similar.

But guess what! I am fine. I am totally fine. This is minor. I am totally fine.
Nothing like a good dose of reality to open your eyes up. That and some pretty nasty images on Google.
And now, I am going to put some lavender oil on my feet and shut up.

Hello!
It's been a while hasn't it?
I am sitting on my couch, feet up, sipping tea and just relaxing. My house needs to be cleaned, laundry desperately needs to be done but here I sit. I am a little weary, and a little sad.
KingK's family from Belfast N.Ireland were here for 2 weeks and have returned home. And I miss them already. We were able to cram in quite a bit of sightseeing while they were here. It was chaotic, a little noisy and absolutely fabulous! Since we said our goodbyes at the airport, I can't stop thinking about how amazing they are and how badly I wish we were not so far apart...

An approx 9 hour flight, if we were to go non-stop (which is not really an option, there is always a stop in London that comes with some sort of lay over, boo!). Sadly not a trip we can make easily.

Anyways, so while I sit here, just kind of "recovering" from the hustle and bustle of all the fun, I am grateful. So very grateful. How fortunate we are to have such great memories and great family on both sides of our family tree.

Cheers to our wonderful family, here in Canada and abroad!

And for other news? Well, there isn't any really. I did reactivate my facebook account after being off for a few years.I guess that might be news. I have been pretty anti facebook as I have seen the drama it can cause. I like to stay in the no drama zone as much as possible.

I am still not totally pro-facebook but I have conceded that it will allow to me to keep in touch with family easier. I still have a few issues with how some use facebook and how much it is used by some but I have to admit, I do see some value in how it allows us to keep in touch. So I won't be posting any status's really, no play by plays of how my day is going. I won't be using it as a platform to air dirty laundry or send cowardly messages venting my beefs with anyone. I might send a message now and then to say Hi or invite someone to an upcoming event though. And I will absolutely comment on the lovely family pics and tell them how great they look or how proud I am off them! And at the first sign of drama...I am out of there again. Some people can't live without checking their facebook...I am not one of them. I know from experience that I am fine without it. Shocking right?

And that's me for today...

Over and out!

I probably won't be blogging for a bit. Nothing bad going on, no major crisis. The pace has picked up at work and at home so I am on unofficial hiatus from blogging for now (I might try to pop in but I can't say for sure!).

KingK also has family arriving in a few days from Belfast, N.Ireland so we will be hangin with with them for a few weeks. I am really looking forward to it!

Stay well my friends. I might still pop into your blogs if I can, just so I am not totally out of the loop!

Stay awesome!
This Friday find is related to something I just love...sleeping!
I came across this on Pinterest. I couldn't get the pin to load on my blog so I had to do this freestyle.

I tried it last night and it seemed to be pretty correct. I timed when I went to bed, giving myself the 14 minutes to fall asleep. I sleep pretty soundly and don't wake up easily. Little bumps in the night and things like the phone ringing rarely wake me up once I am asleep. But I heard the phone ringing this morning. When I looked at the clock, I was right at the end of a sleep cycle (according to this website). I think this might be why I actually heard it. And I woke up alert and not groggy or cranky-this a big deal! And, it was earlier than I would normally have gotten up on a non work day (I took this whole week off, yay!) but I was wide awake and feeling good, so I got up. Yes, I got up. This is not normal. I like to sleep. And I really like to sleep in. I had nothing pressing to do this morning so I could have just gone back to sleep.
So I am going to keep trying this, it's really cool that you can enter what time you need to get up and it will tell you the best times to go to bed.

click the pic to get to the bedtime calculator

Do you have trouble getting up in the morning? Do you wake up groggy and it takes a while to get going? You might be waking up mid cycle. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

What makes people attractive to you? And I don't mean their personality, we all know that is the deciding factor. I mean that physical thing that you notice about someone that you immediately like. That little thing that attracts you to someone.
Married, dating or single-we all know that there is that little thing that attracts you to people. I am not talking I am going to go and get me some extra marital affair type stuff. I mean just a little something something that you like. Nothing scandalous!
For me, I have to confess, it's big hands. Some people look at eyes or a smile...I look at hands. A man with nice big strong hands. Yeah, I like it! And the cherry on top...guys that wear rings on their thumbs. I just dig it. I have no explanation. I have just always found it sexy. Hello, Mr.Sexy big hands with a thumb ring!
We all got our quirks and that's one of mine.
Another thing you probably didn't need or want to know.
Again, your welcome.
What's that one thing that you find attractive or dare I say...hot?
And to keep me motivated I am taking this 30 day house cleaning challenge during the month of April. Feel free to join in or find out more here at The Money Saving Mom site. Need a little motivation to get you going and keep you going? Challenge yourself! I have to tweak this of course because I work out of the home full time and don't have enough time (or often the energy if I am being honest) in the evenings when I get home to do some of this stuff. I might have to add a few more things onto the weekend days and any other days I might get off this month but it will all even out.
Since today is April 1, I am starting today, like right now. Thank goodness day 1 of the challenge happens to fall on a day I actually have off work so I can hit the ground running!
Since Easter is just two days away I thought I would post an easy Easter craft I came across on Pinterest (yes, I have been cruising around Pinterest...again! And yes, I should be doing housework).

I am attending an Easter dinner this year instead of hosting one like I usually do (which I am both excited and a little sad about) so I won't be full out decorating my table this year for dinner but I want to do this the next time I do host an Easter dinner!

It seems simple to do and I think it's a cute idea!

Carrot napkin holders
http://www.niftythriftythings.com

You can get the easy step by step instructions to do this here if you think you need them!

Happy Easter!!!

I am sharing another household tip with you this week. I have to admit when I came across this one, I immediately thought, this totally makes sense. How could I not have figured this out on my own? It's so simple and straight forward.

I have posted about my dislike for ironing (read it here, if you want). So coming across this tip was very welcome. The part I really dislike about ironing is trying to get in between the buttons on shirts. It's so finicky. So, when doing this...use a hair flat iron.

So simple. Maybe I am the last to discover this? Since my ironing knowledge is next to none, it very well could be that y'all have been doing this for years. But on the off chance that I am not the only one who never thought of this, I thought I would share it. Work smarter not harder right?

One day...I might iron a shirt and try it out...maybe one day.
